How to work with objects in Toad for SAP Solutions

Hello there in data land. My name is Robert Pound, and I am a product technologist for Quest. Today's topic is how to better understand SAP database objects. For this demo video I will be using Toad for SAP solutions database diagrammer. It is assumed that there is already a connection established to a database. And in my case, I'm using ASE. So let's begin. As I said, we've already established a connection. And there are different ways to access the database diagrammer. For instance, you can go to Tools and choose Diagrammer. Or you can use the ribbon bar, which is there for your convenience, and choose Diagram. This will open up the tool in a new tab. And on screen in the tab itself you will have directions to fill out the actual database diagrammer, how to drop objects in, how to create relationships, and how to add notes. So we will simply-- we can right-click. I'm going to drag in. And it's already established a relationship for us with one of the other tables. If I did not want to see that, I could simply choose the Reference Depth Level and set it to 0. And that would only bring in the tables that I drag in or right-click and add to. But I'm just going to leave this the way it is for now. And from here we can also add in new tables. So I'm going to grab the Discounts Table. And it, by default, doesn't have any references. And I could grab this discount field and drag across and drop it onto the other discount field here. So that's going to make a reference in the diagrammer. But when I pull up the analyzer, we can see the icon here, the magnifying glass. If I click on it, it's going to show me, yeah, that doesn't really make sense because this is not a solid reference. So if I right-click and remove this, one thing that I can do is, obviously, link it by store ID to the details or to the store. And then if we analyze that we can see there's a better relationship there. And one nice thing, if you have multiple tables or a large field, you can auto arrange the icons so that it's easier to see. Let me go ahead and get this analysis of the way. And odds are you're not doing this as an academic exercise. You probably want to actually use this information once you get the tables that are related that you want to see. So from here, you can right-click and choose Send a Query Builder. And this will allow you to quickly start building out the query in the Query Builder. And if you're more comfortable in the editor, once you get a query that you're interested in, you could send that to the editor as well. And that's all I had to share for today.
