Hello. My name is Andre Cooley, and welcome to another video demonstration on Quest's QoreStor. In this quick video, we'll be showing you how to add a cloud tier from your Azure cloud blob storage in the Quest's QoreStor.
Cloud tier is a policy driven cloud extension to QoreStor, which offers the ability to move and recover data from cloud storage. You can add a cloud tier using two cloud storage providers, Microsoft Azure and Amazon AWS. For this demonstration, we will be using Azure.
So to add a cloud tier, all we need is one or both of the cloud providers I just mentioned, and the cloud storage configured on their respective sites. For more details on these cloud services, please click on the links below. Once we have the cloud storage configured, we just need to gather some information to add them into QoreStor. As mentioned, I have Azure setup. So I'll access my Azure cloud service.
So here we are in the Azure services page. And here, under recent resources, I have my storage account, called QS training. So we'll click on that. And it will bring us to our site for this particular blob storage resource. Before we go any further, though, let's go back to the QoreStor instance, and check to see what we need on that end.
So here, you can see that we are on the QoreStor dashboard page. And in the column to the right of the page, we have a big box that's titled cloud. This is where we will add the cloud tier. To do this, we will click on configure. As you can see, it presents a menu for configuring the cloud tier. In the first field, we have our cloud providers. If you click on the drop down, you will see you have options for both Azure and AWS. Since we're going with Azure for this demonstration, we will make sure it's set accordingly.
Next, we need to give the cloud container a name. This can be any name you choose, or the same name you've given it in Azure. Now, the most specific part of this whole process is the next box, connection string. And this is the bit of info that we need to pull off the Azure site. So let's go back there, and see how we get that.
So as we are still in our QS storage account, we need to get the connection string to add that field into QoreStor. We can find that connection string under settings and access keys here in the menu to the left. The connection string is a link to the storage container that is tied to a specific access key, and which are both completely unique. This means that the connection string will not work if the access key is not tied to that string, and vise versa. However, the connection string is all we need to add the cloud tier in QoreStor. So we simply have to copy that string, come back into QoreStor, and paste it in the connection string field.
Once that's done, we will provide a passphrase. This can also be any phrase you want, but we highly recommend some level of complexity. Know too that this passphrase is only unique to the QoreStor instance, and not on the Azure site. Once finished with the configuration, we will just click on configure, and the cloud tier will be added.
As you can see, now we have our cloud tier added, and a very nice and intuitive list of details available to monitor your cloud storage from within QoreStor. Once this is all set up, you can easily move and recover data as needed from your cloud service.
I hope you've enjoyed this quick demonstration on configuring a cloud tier in Quest's QoreStor. And to learn more about QoreStor, please download a free trial of software, or visit us online at Quest.com.
