Performance Baselines

Hello. This video covers foglight for databases performance baselines. A quick introduction about foglight baselines. Foglight uses IntelliProfile technology to estimate the system performance and help that system monitoring and planning. IntelliProfile uses data collected during a desired time period and generates a baseline operating range based on the collected metrics. A baseline establishes expected data patterns for a given time period. Baselines are periodically evaluated during IntelliProfile learning cycles to reflect changes in data patterns. When requesting baseline information for a particular metric for a given time frame, IntelliProfile determines which of the time frequencies calculated for the metric apply to the given time frame. IntelliProfile composes the frequencies into a combined value. At a glance, detection of abnormal behavior simplifies data interpretation with color-coded widgets. Baseline base chart calibration displays numeric values with visual interpretations. Foglight also provides baseline alerts. Let me walk you through some of the baseline views. Overview page displays baseline performance for overall instance performance workload. This view will help identify if there are any spikes or abnormalities during a specified time range. In this instance, let's click on the I/O to view if there is any baseline deviation. Click on further details which provides descriptive information on the I/O wait time increase. In this case, I/O seems OK. Let's click on memory to check if there is any irregular pattern. Memory rate value is about 20%, and there is an alarm that has fired. From this page you can further investigate using SQL [? PI ?] for detailed analysis, whether it is from overall instance workload perspective, CPU, I/O, or other wait, or open another dimension example SQL statement to view a SQL that is most active and cost a baseline deviation. Foglight provides a list of baseline alarms. The Alarms page can be accessed from the global view. Select an instance and click Configure Alarms and search for baseline. The baseline alarms are invoked when the metric is deviated. Baseline alarms can be configured to send email notifications as well. Thank you for watching.
