Licensing options in Foglight Evolve

Foglight Evolve is available with three distinct licenses that can work together or individually, depending on your specific needs. Foglight Evolve monitoring, Foglight Evolve operate, and Foglight Evolve cloud. Depending on which licenses you use, you'll be able to take a holistic proactive approach to hybrid cloud management allowing you to simplify the complexity of your data center, reduce infrastructure costs, maximize system performance, and/or predict future costs with more accuracy. So let's put it all together in this license overview. For each FMS, count the number of on premises hosts that you want to monitor and the number of on premises hosts you want to monitor and control costs and/or migrate to the cloud. FMS-1 has 300 on premises hosts that you want to monitor. This FMS needs a monitor license. FMS-2 has 500 on premises hosts that you want to monitor and control costs. This FMS will need an operate license. FMS-3 has 800 on premises hosts that you want to migrate to the cloud. To right size and optimize these on premises hosts and then compare the on premise cost to the cloud costs, you need an operate license. To migrate the hosts to the cloud and manage them there, you need a cloud license. FMS-4 has 1,000 hosts that you want to migrate to the cloud. Like FMS-3, it also needs to operate in cloud license. Adding up all the hosts on the FMSs needing monitor and operating cloud licenses results in the customer buying the licenses, receiving request email with the license attached, and then registering this pool of licenses that support.quest.com and optionally in the core portal. This results in 300 monitor licenses, 2,300 operate licenses, and 1,800 cloud licenses. Step three is to install the licenses on the appropriate FMSs. Install the monitor license on FMS-1, install the one operate license on FMS-2, FMS-3, and FMS-4, and install the one cloud license on FMS-3 and FMS-4. Each FMS has a core license server that turns phone home on or off. If on, the FMS license consumption is sent to the license portal at 2:00 AM FMS local time. If off, the customer must export the license consumption data and manually email it to Quest. If your 30 day license consumption for all FMSs exceeds your registered licenses, you will be contacted by Quest every month to pay and register for the extra licenses. No FMS functionality is lost. The customer can check consumption anytime at each FMS by clicking Foglight Evolve Administration, Licenses, Export License Usage Column, or by visiting the core portal.
