Hi. In this video, we're going to install the VMware agent on a Foglight Evolve Agent Manager server.
When you first log in to Foglight Evolve, you're in environment overview. And we can see the inventory is all zeros, because we haven't installed an agent yet. So let's go ahead and install that agent.
We're in a standard view. Scroll down to VMware Environment. Click that. We can skip this tutorial for selecting surfaces. And go right over to Administration. We see agents. And we want to add a VMware agent.
You put in a wizard. It says, where are you going to put this agent? What agent manager host? We only have one. That's the external FglAM server. So we click that, and click Next.
And then the wizard says, where is the vCenter that you're monitoring? Because the VMware agent only collects from vCenters. And we have that. We put it in its IP address, since I don't have a DNS running in this environment. We're going to enable FSM integration, Foglight Storage Manager, so we can collect storage management metrics in the future. And we're going to enable the alarm collection.
We already have checked Enable Historical Metrics. That's checked, and that'll bring in the prior 30 days of vCenter information. So we'll click Next.
At this point, we want credentials for that agent. So we're going to add the vCenter to a new credential and click Next. The title for the credential name, we'll just call it VMware. And we'll put it in a user and password.
Now that we have the credential, we have to put it in a lockbox. You can create your own, but there's a system one. And we'll just select that.
Click Next. You then get a summary of your information. You can make corrections or click Finish. We'll click Finish. And the agent is being created. This will take a minute.
The agent is now created. And we can close this window by clicking its X in the upper right-hand corner. So we see we have the agent. We're not showing it active or collecting yet.
You don't need to click anything. This screen just needs a refresh. We refresh the screen. We can see the agent's active. And it's doing a data collection.
Notice up under VMware environment, it's waiting for data. We won't see anything immediately, because the collection is not instantaneous. It'll take about 5 minutes for the first series of metrics to come in.
If we go back to monitoring, we see all the tiles related to VMware and the VMware objects. They're still all zeros. So we'll pause this video, and come back in about 5 minutes.
It's been about 5 minutes. And now on the Monitoring tab in VMware environment, we can see that the tiles are giving us an inventory count for the various VMware objects, such as virtual centers, data centers, clusters, ESX host, resource pools, data stores, virtual machines, and virtual switches.
That concludes this video for installing a VMware agent. Thank you for watching.
