Most data protection solutions (backup and recovery) were not originally developed for cloud-based applications, so we’ve seen a plethora of new Microsoft 365 (formerly known as Office 365) solutions come to market over the past few years. But, it turns out that protecting Microsoft Teams poses more challenges than one would expect.
With a third-party backup solution, you decide how often to run backups to address demanding Recovery Point Objectives (RPOs) and minimize risk of data loss. You decide where to store your backups, and you can even leverage public cloud-based data deduplication solutions to dramatically reduce cloud storage costs for backup. Savvy IT staff also consider storing a copy of their backups outside the Microsoft 365/Azure cloud environment, especially considering the risk of a Microsoft 365 outage. And, having your backups stored offline or in a remote location can even help you recover data in case of a ransomware attack. A third-party solution also allows you to choose where to run your application, be it in the Azure cloud or in your data center.
