How to setup Foglight email server settings

Welcome to Foglight video solutions. This video will cover how to set up Foglight email server settings, a required configuration to allow the receiving of alarm email notifications. My name Darrell Williams and I'm a Technical Product Specialist. The objective of this demo will cover how to configure email server settings, define the global mail server connection details, applicable and required not just for the Foglight Cartridge for SQL Server agents, but for all Foglight agents or components that have email notification capabilities. Consult the Foglight Cartridge for SQL Server User Guide for more detailed information regarding email settings. To receive other email notifications, an email server setting is required. Log on to the Foglight console with your Foglight Admin user to configure the settings. Defining the global mail server connection details, used for sending email notifications should take place under Administration and click Email. Edit the required field Mail Server and enter your company's email server name or IP and click Save. Access the other required field, Email Sender Address and key in an email address. The address isn't required to be resolvable. It's needed as a sender field when receiving alarm email notifications. Not uncommon for identification purposes to set the sending address to something of recognition to Foglight. Click Save. Other fields are optional considering your company's requirements or if the mail server port has changed from the default settings. After the two mandatory fields are completed, test the configurations. Enter a valid email address to validate the settings and receive the test message, then click Send Test Email. Testing the configurations in this demo will fail because of false mail and email settings. However, with valid configurations an email sent successful dialog box should display requesting to check your inbox, validating the setup. Once the test message is received successfully, the setup is complete. Database notifications on the groups are leftover configurations from older Cartridge versions and are not required with the current database cartridges. The Foglight system is now staged to send alarm email notifications if the alarm email notification settings are configured for your Foglight monitoring agents, which is a separate task.
