Hello, my name is Robert Pound, and I am a Quest technologist. This video covers the installation of Toad for SQL Server. For this video, it is assumed that the trial bits have been downloaded, your key has been received in the welcome email, and you have administrative privileges on the target system.
This video will cover the basic installation of Toad for SQL. For additional details and installation options, refer to the installation guide. If you did not download the installation guide with the product, it can be found at www.support.quest.com.
These details include information on changing data directory, where the application settings are stored, installing and uninstalling SQL Server Management Studio plug-in, installing and uninstalling silently, installing Toad on Citrix systems, and upgrading Toad and the associated automation scripts.
On screen, I have the list of current bundles and the associated products. Toad for SQL Server as a productivity tool set for SQL Server administration that complements SQL Server Management Studio for those familiar with Microsoft SQL. And will have a similar look and feel for those users administering other platforms with Toad. SQL Optimizer is a tool that helps users tune their SQL statements and other aspects of the database.
Benchmark Factory allows users to capture and replay workloads as well as utilize standard workloads to run benchmark and scalability testing. Toad Data Modeler lets users design and document databases through the use of physical and logical models, and Spotlight provides access to the details needed to monitor, diagnose, and optimize SQL Server environments.
If these products sound interesting to you, if you want to obtain more information, a trial, request a demo, or purchase the products, feel free to reach out to Quest through the welcome email and get the conversation started. On screen, I also have a summary list of the prerequisites for installing Toad for SQL and SQL Optimizer. The complete list of details is, again, in the installation guide.
Now that the preamble is out of the way, the remainder of this video is going to be very short. I have downloaded the installer to my desktop and will begin the installation by simply double-clicking on the executable. I will accept the end user license agreement, and I have already entered in the trial key in a previous installation, but this is where you would enter in your trial key and the site message to activate. Once it's entered, you will get your expiration date end version.
Clicking next. We were presented with the options of installing a single product or both products. And from here, you can also affect the root folder of the installation, so if I wanted to change it to a different destination I could, but I'm going to leave it as default, and click install.
The installation could take several minutes, depending on your environment, and what options were chosen. And that's it. The installation is now complete.
From here, if we wanted to launch into Toad World and start doing research and gaining insight from the database professionals on that community, we could do that. I'm going to simply click finish, and double-click on Toad for SQL Server to open it up.
And we can see that Toad is now open. And, again, to open up optimizer, I will open up optimizer. The tools have been installed, and I'm ready to start my evaluation.
I hope this video was helpful. For more information on this product, visit www.quest.com/toad-for-sql-server. You may also check out www.toadworld.com. Thank you.
